Located in the historic Frank Lloyd Wright district of Oak Park, this home was thoughtfully expanded to double its original footprint allowing it to better serve an active family of four. The palette leans casual and organic, staying true to the architectural integrity of the neighborhood while softening it for modern family life. We wanted the feeling to be elegant but the form to be comfortable, grounded, and livable. A home where muddy paws and busy mornings coexist seamlessly with beautiful, functional design.
The original hardwood floors were refinished in warm walnut tones adding depth while maintaining continuity throughout the home. The kitchen is truly the heart of this renovation — designed as the central gathering space for a family who loves to cook and entertain. We created generous circulation so that people can move comfortably around the kitchen and a substantial island anchors the room so guests can convene and converse as the meal is being prepared.
Lighting was completely reimagined throughout the home to support both daily life and evening ambiance and every bathroom was designed specifically for its user. The powder room is intentionally playful — a small but impactful jewelry box. Marble floors ground the space, while colorful wallpaper brings personality and movement. It’s intimate and it’s bold. It’s fun, impactful and unique.
The girls’ bathroom is pretty in pink, but designed elegantly so it is able to grow with them. A large tub anchors the bathing area, paired with a custom vanity, soft pink walls, and pink stone tile. Penny rounds on the floor add a classic touch that compliments the sweetness with structure and brings refined design to a playful space.
The primary bathroom shifts in tone — organic, clean, and modern without feeling fussy. A beautiful marble shower becomes the focal point, surrounded by abundant natural light. The materials speak quietly but confidently, creating a calming, restorative environment for the homeowners.
The basement was significantly enlarged to create a multi-functional retreat for the whole family. A play and lounge area for the kids, a full gym off of the laundry room, and a cozy guest bedroom with a beautiful full bathroom were built from the ground up. We leaned into energizing greens and layered them with warm gold tones to keep the space feeling active and refined.
This renovation respects its architectural context while fully embracing the realities of modern family life — designed to be admired and structured to be lived in. It’s layered and warm. Bold and intentional. It’s a beautiful space for a beautiful family.
